Recently Govt. of India launched the Bharat Interface for Money app, popularly known as BHIM. This app integrates all the UPI payment apps that were available from different banks.
So, this article we will discuss the apps functionality, limitations and how can you start using it.
Sorry, Windows Phone and iOS users currently BHIM app is only launched for Android phone users only. The iOS version of the app will be available soon, but most probably there will be no Windows Phone version.
Features of BHIM App:
- Use all the banking facilities from your phone.
- The App is very simple to use.
- Hassle-free payments using UPI id of the phone number of users.
- You can only add one bank at a time.
- The 4-digit numeric PIN code is not that secure.
How to download & use BHIM app:
To use this Unified Payment Interface one have to associate a mobile phone number with a bank account. If you don’t have your mobile phone number linked to your bank account, please visit the home branch.
Your mobile must have a working data connection and minimum balance to send SMS.
Then go to the Android Play store and search for “BHIM app” or click on the above link/scan QR code to go to the app page.
After installing open the app and start following the on screen instruction or go through the following steps to link a bank account.
First, the app will ask to choose a language. For now English and Hindi are available.
Then the app will ask to create a 4-digit passcode; this code will be asked to enter from the next time you open the app.
After generating a passcode, you will be prompted with a list of banks supporting UPI facility. Select your bank linked with the mobile number.
Next screen you will be asked to verify mobile number registered with your bank. If you are using Android 4.x version and a dual sim mobile phone, put the registered sim on the first slot. In my case, I was not prompted with any option to select the sim.
The app will send a text message to the UPI gateway for validation of mobile number.
Once the verification process was done, the app will ask to verify bank account number. Then you have to generate a UPI PIN to start financial transactions. Generation of UPI pin will require last six digits of attached debit card number.
After the whole process is over, you can start receiving payments and sending money. Every UPI user assigned with an id.
The structure of default id is <mobile no.@upi>, and you can customize it from profile settings. Also, there is a QR code for individual users.
So, that was all about BHIP app. Please don’t hesitate to comment if you face any issue with the setup process. Also, share your suggestions for the app in the comments section.
